Jacobs Nuclear is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the Programme and Project Partners (PPP). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver £7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit a Mechanical RE with high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

Sellafield’s second Box Encapsulation Plant Product Store (BEPPS2), is being delivered by PPP, and supports Sellafield’s mission to reduce the hazard associated with the storage of waste within legacy facilities. BEPPS2 is a mechanical handling storage facility which will provide additional storage capacity for waste packages arising from the site’s retrievals and remediation programmes. The project is currently in the detailed design phase, with the detailed design assurance review scheduled for June 2025.

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical RE to lead a team of Engineers in the delivery of projects to time, cost and quality. 

Responsibilities as a Mechanical RE will include;

• To lead a team of discipline engineers in the implementation and delivery of specified functional work that achieves safety, functional, legislative and business requirements.
• To set the assurance strategy ensuring correct stakeholder buy in at the correct time including all required design reviews, assistance reviews and any other assurance activities.
• To carry out effective and proportionate risk management and assurance activities including to call functional engineering or design capability reviews, especially in relation to design changes which carry significant financial, technical, design or programme risk.
• To collaborate with the other disciplines and the construction team in finding solutions to interface issues and making appropriate compromises for the benefit of project delivery.
• To lead a range of suppliers to ensure outsourced design can be fully integrated with all the systems.
• To ensure that SQEP competent resources are used to prepare, check and approve design work packages.

AS a Mechanical RE you will already have; 

• Qualified Chartered Engineer
• At least 8 years of experience in relevant Project design work
• Experience of detailed design phase and manufacturing design phase
• Experience in leading a team and mentoring junior engineers
