Verdant Specialty Solutions has an opportunity for a Technical Service Chemist at our Halifax West Yorkshire facility. As part of our Technical Service team, you will report to the Technical Service Manager Europe, to support the Technical Service functions, both in Europe and the USA.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out work programme as agreed by Technical Service Managers and report back on a regular basis.
  • Supervise the work of an intern on a day to day basis.
  • Be responsible for safety in the laboratory on a day to day basis and represent the Technical Service Laboratory on the site Safety Committee.
  • Synthesis of products in the lab up to 5 Kg scale using existing and new processes.
  • Analysis of products using existing site analytical methods in QC lab or industry standard methods.
  • Putting together formulations and/or blends of surfactants to meet customer needs and testing of these products in the laboratory.
  • Application & performance testing, including testing of physical parameters, of surfactants and formulations.
  • Supporting any plant trials of new/development products.
  • Ensuring lab and storeroom housekeeping standards are met and maintained and safety checks are completed.
  • Obtaining raw materials for use in lab for sampling, synthesis, testing or formulation work.
  • Ensuring preparation and despatch of samples, ensuring they are packed and labelled correctly, with the correct paperwork, and meet legal requirements.
  • Participation and attendance in Industry trade shows.
  • As required participate in customer and third parties meetings, on and off site.

Requirements

What Qualifications, skills and experience you need:

  • A graduate with BSc/MSc Hons Chemistry or equivalent qualifications, and have some experience, ideally in an industry related to Verdant activities.
  • A strong interest in applying your scientific knowledge to practical, commercial situations, and have good practical lab skills. Experience in a technical service laboratory will be a distinct advantage but importantly you must be capable of working under your own instruction.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical experiences are essential.
  • A Self starter, with the ability to supervise both activities and other employees
  • The ability to communicate confidently and effectively with both internally and externally
  • Demonstrates problem solving abilities
  • Full/Clean UK driving licence
