An award winning manufacturer of cosmetic and personal care products based in the West Yorkshire region have a fabulous opportunity for a junior/development chemist.

priding themselves on being able to create, produce, package, and distribute high-end product ranges whilst maintaining long-lasting relationships with their customers, this is an opportunity not to be missed!

The successful applicant will join a well established but also rapidly growing team, and will bring with them a degree in chemistry or cosmetic science and ideally some previous cosmetic industry formulation experience, though the right character is what will stand the successful applicant apart.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with client brand, innovation, and new product development teams to provide input into creating, delivering, and exceeding product briefs.
  • Lead the development of new innovative formulas across the product portfolio, ensuring technical requirements were being met for all products, playing an integral role from inception to launch and beyond, both internally and externally
  • Investigate, evaluate, and develop new technologies and innovations.
  • Work closely with suppliers and clients to oversee all new products' formulation, safety, and technical compliance. Managing all formulation-related technical aspects with manufacturing teams and troubleshooting potential issues
  • Provide scientific expertise and play an advisory role to ensure projects run smoothly by managing risk assessments and escalating appropriately to the Head of Formulation
  • Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders and key suppliers to strengthen innovation capabilities.
  • Support regulatory team with product safety and cosmetovigilance
  • Support clients' brand, innovation, and NPD teams in developing technical product stories
  • Identify and educate the team on new materials and ingredients
  • Attend regular client meetings, which may require national & international travel (and overnight stays.)
  • Attend national and international trade shows to support commercial and business development teams.

Skills, experience and qualifications:

  • A scientific degree or higher, ideally in chemistry, cosmetic or pharmaceutical science
  • Demonstrable experience in formulation development, product development, and regulatory affairs, ideally from an R&D lab, contract manufacturer or beauty brand background.
  • Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to anticipate issues and provide solutions
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills, with high creativity and attention to detail
  • A strong understanding of technical and testing requirements
  • Speed to market and able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Results-oriented, excellent ability to utilise and manage the organisation's resources to achieve goals
