Financial Controller – Rugby office based

Litron Lasers is one of the world’s leading solid-state laser manufacturers based in Rugby. As part of the company’s expansion plans the company is looking to appoint an experienced and qualified  in-house Accountant who has experienced both technical and operational accounting and who is driven to make this role an integral part of the management team..

The successful applicant will oversee a small finance and administration team and play an integral role in supporting the Board of Directors. Reporting directly to the Financial Director you will be responsible for all aspects of company accounting and reporting activities.

This role combines technical and operational accounting.

The Role and Responsibilities will include a variety of tasks including but not limited to:

  • Preparation of annual statutory medium company accounts and managing annual audits
  • Preparation of quarterly management accounts including monthly analysis and commentary, variance analysis
  • Preparation of annual research and development tax claim
  • Producing budgets and forecasts
  • Maintenance of fixed assets register
  • Accounts payable verification function
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • General ledger maintenance including accruals and prepayment
  • Providing information required for company insurances
  • Completion and submission of Government statistical surveys
  • Dealing with Companies House
  • Supporting external auditors in the review and completion of the statutory accounts
  • Supporting external auditors in completing and submitting UK Corporation Tax returns
  • Providing support and cover for other finance staff
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation
  • Providing general financial advice to the Board of Directors.
  • Provide insightful financial data to support strategic decision-making by the senior leadership team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on cost control initiatives.
  • Assist the Finance Director with ongoing projects and system improvements.
  • To oversee and support a small proficient finance and administration.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will be a qualified company accountant with previous experience in management accounting preferably within a manufacturing or high technology environment.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Qualified Accountant to CIMA, ACCA, ACA standard.
  • Educated to degree level would be advantageous.
  • Strong numeracy and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of VAT and Corporation Tax reporting
  • Strong IT systems experience, preferably with SAGE Accounting Software and MS Excel.
  • Effective communication skills with Board of Directors and shareholders.
  • A flexible approach with excellent organisation and prioritisation skills with a strong focus on meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to manage, lead, and develop staff.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
