Position: Fibre Network Design Engineer

Employment Type: 12-month contract (with possible 12-month extension)

Location: Dublin

Our client is a well established telecommunications company that looks after infrastructure for some of the world's best known tech and telecoms companies across the globe.

They are in need of a Fibre Network Design Engineer, with experience in GIS, to work on the FTTH rollout in Dublin for one of the UK and Ireland's largest telecommunications providers.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Designing the Core Fibre Network, from Data Centres/Hubs to field-installed OLTs, including fibre capacity, splice plans, and potential route resilience
  • Reviewing Access ODN pre-design to ensure the field survey accurately captures all information required for efficient design
  • Processing Access ODN Design Change Requests due to wayleave loss, unserviceable duct routes, excessive PIA costs, etc.
  • Conducting post-survey pre-design reviews for OLT service areas, advising design partners on design optimisation and efficiency
  • Reviewing OLT service area FTTH designs to ensure:
    • Technical Parameters – Loss budget and Headroom Optimisation
    • Compliance with Geospatial Parameters and ArcGIS Data Model
    • Design optimisation for PON efficiency, minimising the requirement for additional wayleaves
    • Minimisation of unnecessary PIA requirements
  • Gaining a detailed understanding of the data conversion process from ArcGIS GDB files to the ArcGIS Utility Network Model, managing the conversion process, and resolving incidents and problems
  • Providing feedback to the team on proposed improved ways of working

What You'll Need for the Role:

  • Qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science, and/or a GIS-based discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a GIS team, preferably within the Telecoms or Utilities industries
  • Experience with network design/infrastructure build projects
  • Knowledge of FME, SQL scripting, and Python
  • Competence in using ArcGIS Pro Model Builder
  • Experience with AutoCAD and GeoDirectory databases
  • Strong IT literacy, with the ability to efficiently and quickly analyse sizeable data
  • Excellent knowledge of FTTH and HFC architectures
  • Expertise in GE Smallworld products and GIS systems generally
  • Experience documenting processes, workflows, and technical requirements
