Fleet Engineering Manager

Location: Waltham Cross, Herts
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday

Due to our client's continued growth, we are seeking a Fleet Engineering Manager to ensure Distribution and Vehicle Fleet operation is compliant, organized, and efficient. This role involves managing a National Fleet of 252 vehicles and 22 trailers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and motivate the fleet team, including attendance, productivity, and conduct.
  • Oversee daily tasks and deputize for Fleet Compliance Managers when needed.
  • Set and monitor team KPIs for National Fleet Operations.
  • Build a customer-focused team environment.
  • Train, coach, and appraise staff.
  • Improve and develop office-based processes and procedures.
  • Monitor and control costs, adhering to budgetary targets.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and monitor expenditures.
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance and utilization policies are followed.
  • Monitor OCRS maintenance system for strengths and weaknesses.
  • Maintain legal, Health & Safety, and HACCP controls.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and contractor levels.
  • Plan for trading period variations and manage costs.
  • Investigate accidents/defects and report incidents.
  • Audit the National Fleet for compliance and legal requirements.
  • Represent the National Fleet department in meetings.
  • Implement and manage changes to ensure legal compliance.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • National Management CPC qualification.
  • Knowledge of EU legislation, VOSA & DVSA regulations.
  • Recognized Apprenticeship in HGV Mechanics (e.g. City & Guilds).
  • Ability to diagnose vehicle defects/problems.
  • Experience with Warehouse & Transport Operations.
  • Knowledge of the legal framework around Transport Operations.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Waste & sustainability knowledge (advantageous).
  • Professional communication skills.
  • Team leadership experience.
