About the role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will oversee the accurate definition, design, installation, and completion of projects requiring mechanical expertise. This role includes managing the Mechanical Engineer.

It is an all-encompassing design position, involving work on various engineering projects, such as Pumping Station refurbishments and Treatment Works upgrades, often handling multiple projects simultaneously.

You will be working with in the capital delivery team (design, delivery and commissioning teams), and reporting to principal engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical lead and oversight on projects requiring mechanical design input.
  • Providing support to the Principal Engineer/Project Manager to ensure that the design brief meets the project scope and that stakeholder requirements are incorporated into designs.
  • Define scope of survey works and ensure surveys meet design requirements.
  • Undertake any necessary design activities aligned to area of expertise within project brief whilst developing designs that meet technical standards and are safe and efficient to build, commission, operate, maintain, and dismantle.
  • Develop tender documentation scope and specification working collaboratively with Procurement.
  • Support Procurement providing specialist technical expertise evaluating tender returns and quotations.
  • Support the Principal Engineer / Project Manager to ensure site activities are aligned with design and specification.
  • Preparation of record documentation including drawings, O&M manuals and updates to asset data records.

Skills

Essential

  • Design experience of mechanical engineering works in the water industry.
  • A Technical Authority to support the Company in maintaining the Mechanical Specification, ensuring project compliance and review of technical impact of project changes.
  • Basic competency with AutoCAD 2020 or later
  • CDM knowledge and working experience.

Desired

  • Basic understanding of NEC4 contracts.
  • Management experience
  • Design, Installation and/or maintenance of electrical ICA and process plant.
  • Understanding of regulations and standards relating to industrial MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Process) design and construction

Education

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with relevant professional institution
