Company description
My client are a privately owned laboratory that provide independent commercial analysis to customers based around the world. They are looking for a laboratory technician to join their team!
General:
The role of the Instrument Technician is to process samples through the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AA), ICP and C-IC to ensure that turnaround times are being met while maintaining the quality of the data and performing the required maintenance on these instruments.
Main Duties:
- Follow in house techniques as trained.
- Prepare calibration standards as required.
- Digest/ prepare samples in readiness for analysis.
- Set-up of the instrumental run.
- Process Quality Control samples in accordance with the ISO 17025:2017 standard requirements and be able to react in case of non-conforming work.
- Analyse data when ready and report to Operations Manager.
- Detail oriented, can follow processes in a consistent and exacting manner despite workload.
- Perform the daily/ weekly instrument maintenance and maintain a log.
- Assist Technical Manager in method development.
- Safe handling of chemicals and awareness of laboratory hazards.
- Develop knowledge of metals and minerals qualities.
- Comply with Health and Safety requirements: as per training, policies, procedures, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work etc.
- Actively seek to improve safety culture.
- Report any H&S issues/accidents/near misses to your line manager immediately.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science but preferably in Analytical Chemistry
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an ICP laboratory including equipment maintenance and trouble-shooting
- Experience of effectively communicating with people at all levels both internally and externally
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in their work
- Ability to effectively work as part of a team and independently
- Able to use Microsoft applications including, Outlook, Word and Excel
