Summary of Role:

Our client is seeking enthusiastic and experienced engineers to join their Energy team. The role involves designing and implementing electrical and control systems, primarily for PLC-based control panels, cabling, MCCs, Drives & Controls, and Switchgear within the thermal and hydro power generation sector. Responsibilities include site surveys, developing electrical engineering solutions, control panel design, and ensuring compliance with procedures and standards. The position may require travel and short periods away at customer sites to carry out surveys and collaborate on solutions.

Role Description:

  • Lead and drive the project team
  • Review and approve designs developed by the team
  • Ensure team compliance with agreed procedures, methods, and standards
  • Interpret and verify customer-supplied data, specifications, and drawings
  • Lead/Produce system designs from customer-supplied information
  • Lead the creation/modification of Design Packs, including system drawings, general arrangements, schematics & wiring diagrams, site cable drawings, etc.
  • Produce client design documentation and test documentation
  • Produce necessary documentation to support system production, such as FDS, Test Documentation, Manuals, etc.
  • Lead site surveys and assist in the preparation of Health and Safety Documentation
  • Support site acceptance testing/commissioning
  • Support the production of tender documents and cost estimates

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in control systems within the energy market or similar utility
  • Competence in field cabling systems, including surveying, identifying routes, cable calculations for sizing and earthing/protection
  • Control panel design incorporating PLC, I/O, Comms cards, UPS's, etc.
  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject or HND with additional experience
  • At least 5 years post-graduate experience or 6 years post-HND experience in successful project implementation
  • Computer literate with Word, AutoCAD, and Excel experience
  • Methodical approach to interpreting customer requirements and delivering project documentation
  • Understanding of Full Project Lifecycle
  • Hold a current full driving license (UK or be able to easily convert to full UK)
  • Willing to undergo a basic disclosure Scotland check

Desirable Skills:

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following:

  • Rockwell (Control Logix)
  • Siemens (PC7S, TIA Portal)
  • Schneider (M580, M340)
  • Site installation and commissioning of control systems
  • Motor Control Centres - Specification, procurement, installation, etc.
  • Good understanding of BS7671 IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Awareness/understanding of DSEAR Regulations and Hazardous area applications
  • Awareness/understanding of Functional Safety (IEC 61508/61511)
  • Ability to work to deadlines and budgets
  • Familiarity with databases
