About the Opportunity 

Jacobs Nuclear is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high-value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

For Lightly Shielded Store 1 (LSS1), this opportunity is to be a Senior CE&I Engineer for control systems for remote handling applications related to:

  • Electric Overhead Traveling Cranes
  • Robotic Inspection Areas

It also requires an understanding of Information Management and awareness of building services such as Power, Lighting, CCTV and Fire Detection. On a day-to-day basis, the Senior CE&I engineer reports to the CE&I Responsible Engineer on LSS1.

Key Responsibilities
The Senior CE&I Engineer is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing design engineering solutions for the full project life cycle
  • Understanding and interrogating schematic design
  • Identifying design, statutory and regulatory requirements including machinery risk assessments
  • Working with a multidiscipline team
  • Liaising with suppliers
  • Producing technical reports and specifications
  • Reviewing technical deliverables and drawings
  • Presenting engineering solutions to stakeholders and as part of design reviews
  • Specifying requirements for Sequencing and Interlock definition documents

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation or equivalent (e.g. HNC/HND with significant experience) in an engineering discipline.
  • Have some experience in a similar role.
  • Have attained / or working towards chartered or incorporated status with a recognised professional body (e.g. IEEE or IET).
  • Display and enable collaborative behaviours.

In addition, it would be desirable for the individual to have working experience in the following:

  • Designing and Specifying Safety Related Parts of Control Systems
  • The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations
  • Existing Sellafield plants / brown field sites
