Job Purpose:

As a Production Manager, you will oversee production, manage team leaders, and ensure delivery of products and services in line with scorecard requirements, meeting internal and external customer expectations. You will generate monthly forecasts in conjunction with Production Control and be responsible for delivering the monthly Sales Plan, both in value and On Time In Full (OTIF).

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Strategic Development: Collaborate with senior management to develop long-term strategic goals, including operational, performance, and HSE objectives.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Continuously improve customer quality and delivery performance, measured by internal scorecard, customer OTIF, and customer scorecards.
  • Production Planning: Work with the Production Control team to create and deliver robust plans, validate the production plan with Commercial and Production Control, and optimize capacity and load levels.
  • Financial Performance: Enhance financial performance by achieving business and departmental budgets, improving Business ‘Financial & Operational KPI’s’.
  • Operational Efficiency: Improve operational performance through effective resource deployment (labor, equipment, methods), utilizing KPIs such as standard hour performance, capacity planning, and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Effective Communication: Ensure timely and clear communication of ‘SMART’ information through production meetings, team meetings, production plans/schedules, and team boards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement activities, eliminating waste, enhancing labor productivity, equipment capacity, and efficiency using best practice ‘LEAN’ techniques, including cellularization, HS&E, and 6S.
  • Cross-Department Coordination: Coordinate with departments like Purchasing, Engineering, NPI, Business Development, Commercial, and Finance to meet departmental, business, and customer expectations.
  • Team Development: Manage and develop department and team skills through Skills Matrices, Personal Development Reviews (PDR), and succession planning.
  • Team Leadership: Assist Team Leaders in enhancing manufacturing performance, ensuring adherence to booking/clocking, KPIs, and process improvements.
  • Performance Monitoring: Set and agree on company and departmental measures to monitor progress/improvement, driving necessary changes to meet targets such as OTIF, Right First Time, Zero Defects, and Produced Hours.
  • Operational Excellence: Lead initiatives contributing to long-term operational excellence.
  • Additional Duties: Perform any other reasonable duties or specific projects as directed by management.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

Essential:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of production/manufacturing machinery, technologies, and processes related to machining
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Proficiency in solving complex manufacturing problems using LEAN tools, 6S, and cellular techniques
  • Excellent IT skills (MS Office)
  • Previous operational management experience in an engineering business
  • Ability to drive team results and support business growth
  • Commercially astute with the ability to work independently and in a team

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with ISO9001 and Quality Management Systems
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO14001, ISO45001
  • Previous aerospace experience, including aero engine and airframe manufacturers
  • Knowledge of machining, milling, turning, grinding, heat treatment, and NDT
  • Familiarity with subcon processes and materials such as super alloys, titanium, and magnesium
  • Strong emotional intelligence, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Degree/MSc qualification
  • Green/Black Belt certification
