Machine Shop Team Leader

Production Manager / Head of Manufacturing

Purpose of the Role

Supervise the machine shop to assist in the timely delivery of parts to high standards, maintaining a high level of diligence, ensuring safety, quality and customer specifications are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the machine shop (Team of approx.10)
  • Ensure the team produce specific component parts to high tolerance.
  • Carry out all responsibilities as instructed by the Production Management team.
  • Offer insights and feedback into work allocation.
  • Ensure teams members are clear and concise on the shift objectives.
  • Daily hand overs with the night shift
  • Work closely with Fabrication Lead, delegate cut lists, manage saw man’s time in line with production needs.
  • Ensure production deadlines are met.
  • Champion and standardise good working practices / initiatives ensuring innovative processes are implemented and maintained
  • Drive efficiencies and continuous improvement
  • Produce component parts in tolerance of drawing specifications.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality control.
  • Investigate Dept. NCR’s and offer ‘lessons learnt’
  • Communicate regularly with the Production Management team on specific production requirements.
  • Ensure the work environment is conducive to product and service quality
  • Comply with the Management System requirements for Health and Safety ensuring others work to company and policies and procedures.
  • Report any accidents to line manager.
  • Comply with Risk Assessments, Method Statements and the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with the management systems requirement for the Environment and Quality by working to company policies and procedures.
  • Liaise and work in partnership with all other functions
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks as required

Key Skills

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Competent in the technical aspects of CNC Turning / Milling / Manual Machining.
  • Experience working with both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Able to produce components to a high standard whilst working to tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge and general awareness of health and safety issues
  • Team-player and ability to work on own initiative
  • Attention to detail

Desirable Qualifications

  • Minimum City & Guilds or NVQ in relevant discipline (Desirable)
