Job Purpose

We seek a experienced and pro-active SHEQ / Health and Safety manager to join our dynamic team currently delivering installation, maintenance, and product support services for LV and HV assets across the UK. 

Job Context

Working within the Service Engineering division, the primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of personnel involved in both low voltage (LV) and high voltage (HV) works across the UK. Act as the subject matter expert, providing guidance and support, developing safe working practices, and conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations to mitigate potential hazards.  

Additionally, play a pivotal role in driving a culture of safety excellence, continuously improving H&S procedures, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, to safeguard the well-being and productivity of personnel while enhancing operational efficiency.  The role will expand to assist in the standardisation and coordination of H&S procedures within internationally based Energy Services engineer teams.

Although directly supporting the Engineering division you will sit with in the Group’s wider Health and Safety organisation.  

Job Dimensions

The role will support a team of skilled LV/HV Engineers, SAP’s, managers and supporting staff across all aspects of the HV industry.  The role is a balance of hybrid working including site visits (across the UK), working from one of our offices.  The core hours are 07:30 to 16:00 Monday to Thursday, 07:30 am to 12:00 Friday.  Depending on operational work and site requirements, additional hours may be required to ensure H&S support is provided throughout the range of a flexible working week. 

Daily co-ordination of Health and Safety support directly though the Energy Services management team with accountability and reporting to the UK Health and Safety Manager.

Key Accountabilities

These will include:

•    Driving growth of our UK Energy Services business, through supporting all aspects of Health & Safety across all UK sites. 

•    Ensuring implementation of the Health and Safey Policy.

•    Ensuring all work is carried out to the highest standard and compliance.

•    Support teams and individuals with site documentation, H&S queries, and continual improvement. 

•    Support the department with H&S documents, procedures, job packs and programmes as required. 

•    Support the team in managing customer H&S communications, tenders, pre and post project documentation.

•    Investigate incidents and accidents to establish root causes.

•    Provide H&S reports and data to the UK H&S manager and Energy Services management team.

•    Manage the application of H&S internally and externally with our clients and supporting contractors.

•    Support the departments training requirements through assessment of skills analysis, progression, renewal, and legal requirements. 

•    Oversee customer and subcontractor H&S relationships. 

•    Attending meetings in Thame, at sites and customer premises when required.

•    Carry out site audits, inspections, procedural checks and improve procedures.

•    Manage commercial requirements by writing and issuing H&S documents, work packs, CDM plans and construction phase plans.

•    Support external ISO audits, client audits and ensure legal compliance at all times. 

•    Supporting out of hours calls as required. 

Desirable:

•    Previous Safety, Health, Environment and Quality management experience.

•    Good knowledge of construction H&S

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

•    Professional certification in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) preferred.

•    In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation, management systems and practices, with a focus on construction and design management regulations.

•    Experienced in developing Health and Safety practices and procedures.

•    Experienced in identifying the root cause of incidents and accidents and the implementation of corrective actions.  

•    Proven experience in health and safety advisory roles, preferably within the construction or energy industries.

•    Strong understanding of risk management methodologies and techniques.

•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

•    Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.

•    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

•    Proficiency in MS Office suite and health and safety management software.

•    Full driver’s license and ability to travel nationally.

Desirable: 

•    Experience in auditing against international standards ISO9001, ISO 14001 & ISO45001.

•    Working knowledge of Quality and Environmental management.

•    Knowledge of Electrical engineering, construction planning, site management and logistics. 

•    Willingness to assist in out of hours calls.

•    Experiences in a multi-cultural environment.
