Driver required to work for a local authority - the main duties of the post involves the operation of a skip hook wagon to deliver and remove skips and equipment for the Highways Service. The post will also involve general driving and delivery of vehicles and equipment for the maintenance and management teams of the Fleet Service.

Other duties will include

  • Testing and calibration of plant and equipment
  • Assisting the Plant Coordination team as required in the provision of hired plant and vehicles

Experience of working within a highways or skip delivery environment is essential as will holding the relevant plant operator certification and driving entitlements to operate a skip hook wagon and commercial vehicles up to 32 tonnes (Class C) as well as holding an up to date driver CPC. Holding a digital tacho card and recording and downloading journey and work data in accordance with DVLA/DVSA regulations will be a requirement of the role. A working knowledge of Health & Safety at Work PUWER regulations will be essential.

Responsibilities:

  1. Operation of vehicles, light plant and equipment such as; skips, concrete mixers, portable pumps, portable traffic lights, air compressors and tools, road breakers all ancillary equipment and tools and operation of powered hand tools.
  2. Data input and process information into various ICT systems
  3. General assistance to meet out of hours emergencies or adverse weather conditions e.g. snow, wind etc by carrying out snow clearing and gritting operations, loading/unloading etc.
  4. Driving vehicles and operated plant, including LGVs
