Agenda are recruiting for an experienced Scientific Officer to work within the Experimental Team of the Biological Resources unit. The aim of the post is to provide day to day care and welfare monitoring for the mice housed in the facility and to work alongside the research groups to support their work.

Basic Requirements:

  • HNC in Animal Technology or equivalent or minimum of 5 GCSE’s.
  • Significant experience in the field of laboratory animal technology.
  • Holder of a current or previous Personal Licence.
  • Prior experience in the field of animal technology.
  • Competent in at least some non-surgical skills including licenced techniques.
  • Experience specifically in the area of oncology research would be an advantage.
  • Ability to carry out routine tasks and procedures under minimum supervision.
  • Have excellent organisational, time management and communication skills.
  • Be computer literate and competent in the use of standard office software.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with Equality and Diversity policies. 
  • Carry out day to day husbandry and care and welfare observations.
  • Conduct surgical and non-surgical experimental  procedures.
  • Make observations, keep accurate records and capture data in writing or electronically.
  • Keep up to date with developments in animal technology.
  • Train other staff in licenced and non-licenced techniques.
  • Contribute towards the general cleaning and upkeep of the facility and monitor and record environmental conditions in specifical areas as required.
  • Commit to the rota for weekend and bank holiday cover for the unit
  • Use equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Assist with the duties in other areas of the Biological Resources unit.
