Purpose

To support Health, Safety and Environmental management in a dual purposed role. This is a’ Boots on the ground ‘position for a HSE professional who likes to work in a customer facing environment to drive practical solutions and improve workplace health, safety and environment risks.  

You will provide site-based support to our Merseyside based plant tasked with liaising with the in-house customer to provide them a detailed HSE report upon request.

You will also provide regional support on request at other ALPLA sites supporting our Senior HSE Manager in maintaining overall UK safety management and conformity. You will work closely with site management and teams to implement best practices, conduct risk assessments, and develop strategies to continuously improve our HSE performance.

Delivering training and support to plants as and when required.

To support colleagues as and when required within the wider OPEX and Quality teams - The role will hold responsibility for driving Operational Excellence in collaboration with the OPEX team.

Main responsibilities – Site Based (Merseyside Location)

  • Report regularly to the Operations Manager
  • Maintain risks level, report HSE performance, project progress and HSE ideas
  • Undertake task risk assessments, maintain the risk registers
  • Liaise with specialist providers for specified risk assessments
  • Assist investigations, root cause analyses and of corrective actions
  • Undertake site HSE inductions and refreshers

Main responsibilities – Regional Sites

  • Support and report into the Senior UK HSE Manager in the maintenance and progress for HSMS/EMS and corporate HSE programmes
  • Coach existing or new processes according to approved procedures
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions
  • Create SSOW and Toolbox talks
  • Evaluate compliance for HSMS/EMS arrangements
  • Aid local HSE managers to achieve corporate and regional improvement projects

Skills/Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent qualification.
  • Environmental management certificate
  • Experience within a Manufacturing/FMCG environment is preferred.
  • Skilled in workplace transport, task risk assessment, manual handling assessment, COSHH, PUWER knowledge
  • Demonstration of professional competence and hand on delivery
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and HSE ACOPS
  • ISO (phone number removed) internal Auditor certificate (desirable)
  • Managing Contractors, permit to work and knowledge of CDM
  • COSHH, PUWER/LOLER, Work at Height,  manual handling tools are essential
  • Accident investigation. Problem solving, 5Y and A3 RCA.
  • Project planning, management of Change, engaging stakeholders and interested parties
