Design Manager needed in Nottingham
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management: Lead and manage external design consultants, subcontractors, and construction team inputs on projects. Report to the Regional Director.
- Design Delivery: Ensure timely delivery of accurate, commercially viable, and buildable design information for construction and procurement.
- Compliance: Ensure designs comply with project contract conditions, budgets, and regulations.
- BIM Principles: Champion and maintain BIM principles and procedures.
- Pre-Construction Support: Participate in bid processes with the pre-construction team.
- Tender Stage Management: Lead the design process during the tender stage to ensure optimal solutions for D&B and Traditional projects.
- Innovative Solutions: Develop new ideas during the bid stage to create bid-winning opportunities. Collaborate with the Bid team and consultants.
- Tender Review: Review tender information to identify risks and opportunities. Ensure compliance with Building Regulations and Employer’s Requirements.
- Project Position Understanding: Understand project influences such as Planning, Building Control, BREEAM, Energy, Ecology, and Highways.
- Consultant Management:
- Novated Consultants: Review appointments and scope of services. Obtain fees for gaps in services.
- Stepnell Selected Consultants: Assist in identifying consultant teams. Issue enquiries and review fees.
- Support & Collaboration: Prepare robust design information for procurement and construction. Attend project meetings as required.
- Reporting & Coordination: Report to Contracts Manager/Project Manager. Collaborate with Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor to optimise design, buildability, programme, and commercial aspects.
- Consultant Performance Management: Manage consultant appointments. Ensure optimal designs while maintaining consultant responsibility.
Qualifications & Experience
- Educational Background: Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design management within the construction industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in BIM principles and procedures. Strong understanding of Building Regulations, BREEAM, Energy (LZC/SAP/SBEM), Ecology, Highways, etc.
- Project Management: Proven track record of managing design processes from tender to completion. Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external consultants.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and develop innovative solutions.
