Senior Engineer - Highways

We are currently working with a local authority to recruit for a Senior Engineer to lead a team involved in routine maintenance, management and administration of the highway network.

This position will responsible for ensuring that highway safety and service inspections are carried out in a correct, timely and quality manner along with delivering and managing, reactive and routine highway maintenance needs whilst apply a risk based approach.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working within an operational Highways Environment, be well-organised, flexible, and have good communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To lead an engineering team involved in the routine maintenance, management and administration of the highway network aligned to strong asset management principles.
  2. To contribute to the development and review of the Highway Infrastructure Asset Management Policy and Strategy and the Highway Infrastructure Asset Management Plan and other associated policies and plans.
  3. To facilitate the generation, reporting and publication of local highway "Performance Measures" in order to support Doncaster's contribution to operational benchmarking initiatives.
  4. To ensure that the annual highway safety and service inspections and other highway data collection surveys are undertaken in a correct, timely and quality manner to identify actionable highway maintenance repairs are at a borough-wide level via a risk-based approach in accordance with the Highways Code of Practice "Well-managed Highway Infrastructure".
  5. To respond to FOI, Public and Ward Member enquiries and third party claims in a full and timely manner and support Doncaster Council in the defence of legal challenge.
  6. To facilitate the timely management and response to complaints, investigations, feasibility studies and correspondence on all matters concerning highway maintenance activities, defect reports and service requests via Customer Services reflective of the Council's Customer Care system and other open communications systems via social media.
