An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Section Engineer to join our rail team. To be considered, you will come from a Construction or Civil Engineering background with previous rail experience.

The Section Engineer will be responsible for the managing the engineering on a project or section of work, ensuring works are constructed to the contract drawings, specifications, procedures and plans, whilst managing site and trainee engineers.

Key Accountabilities to include but not limited to:

Health, Safety & Environment:

  • Contribute to the achievement of Galldris’s Safety Targets and zero tolerance of unsafe working practices
  • To establish and implement site systems and controls consistent with Galldris company standards and project requirements including health, safety and quality systems and project engineering standards Produce RAMS and TBS, communicating to workforce and monitoring compliance. Contribute to the raising of health, safety and environmental observations and follow up on actions. Assist with carrying out site inductions and toolbox talks
  • Check Permits issued by the Principal Contractor and ensure they are received in a timely manner for works to proceed

Programme & Progress:

  • Produce a weekly programme and measures progress against project targets. Communicate a weekly programme and targets to the workforce
  • Feedback and report issues on site which may delay programme or progress. Assist with preventing, identifying and rectifying issues on site which may impact the programme. Maintain a Daily Diary

Design & Temporary Works

  • Permanent Design – Understand the design drawings, specifications and setting out requirements and ensure accurate construction in accordance with requirements
  • Temporary Works Design – In liaison with TWC, identify temporary works requirements, produce design briefs and understand and communicate temporary works designs to site team and monitor installation to ensure compliance
  • MARs – Raise Material Approval Records and procure materials in line with programme
  • TQs – Highlight issues and raise queries from review of drawings and specifications and from site inspections, and raise with relevant party, drawing sketches where required

Quality Management

  • Produce ITPs, communicating to workforce and checking the process is being followed. Actively use the Specification as a reference document. Maintains a comprehensive filing system of quality records
  • Identify, raises and action Non Conformance Reports. Identify and raise Technical Queries with possible solutions

Operations:

  • Where required, carry out accurate setting out duties on site using relevant surveying equipment
  • Manage Site Engineers, ensuring timely and accurate setting out and surveying is carried out. Manage survey information and collation of as-built information
  • Management of assistant/trainee engineers, providing support and mentoring

Commercial / Other

  • Support Project Manager and Commercial team in collating records and diaries, understanding cost forecast and identifying and recording change
  • Collate and manage material reconciliations
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of this position
  • Comply with Company policies & procedures

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Experience in Civil Engineering, with good technical knowledge
  • Experience of working within the rail environment
  • Good knowledge of CDM regulations and temporary works. Good knowledge of specifications and testing regime relevant to general civil engineering / specification for highway works

Skills:

  • Good communication, people and team management skills. Ability to speak up on HSEQ matters and lead by example
  • Ability to demonstrate the right behaviours and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Computer literacy advanced

Qualifications:

  • Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
  • Member of Institute of Civil Engineers or working towards (desirable)
  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS (desirable)
  • CSCS
  • PTS
