Build Technician

My client, an innovative company at the cutting edge of electric motor technology in automotive, requires an experienced build technician for a contract role.

The build technician will be responsible for the assembly of prototype motors. The build technician will follow assembly and test procedures carefully and diligently, working alongside the Manufacturing team, sharing ideas and proposing improvements to part, process and equipment. The builds will be a mix of technical manual processes requiring precision and dexterity as well as automated processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Precision assembly of motors including:
    • Coil winding
    • Resin impregnation of components
    • Assembly of coil windings into stator sub-assemblies
    • Welding of copper fretwork assemblies
    • Measuring, cleaning and adhesive bonding of components
    • Laser welding
    • Running plasma cleaning and adhesive dispensing robots
    • The use of assembly jigs, torque/angle screwdrivers, fixtures and tooling
    • Fabrication of simple mechanical/electrical parts including looms, connectors, crimping, soldering etc.
    • Conducting basic electrical and functional safety tests
    • Building sub-assemblies into finished motors
  • Adherence to quality processes and documentation.
  • Development, proof and implementation of process improvements in line with automotive and equivalent quality procedures
  • Allocation of materials and tracking of part usage
  • Completion of in-house quality documentation such as build records or digital data cards
  • Identify and feedback potential design improvements to the Design Team

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working in full-scale manufacturing environment working in mechanical/electrical production assembly, preferably within the automotive sector.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience of setting up and operating production equipment in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Familiar with use of adhesives/resins, wire and cable preparation, soldering, crimping.
  • High good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Windows (Outlook, Word and Excel).
