The Role: As a Management Accountant, you will report to the Finance Director and play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the monthly management accounts. You will be responsible for financial risk management, key financial reporting, and implementing continual improvements to the management accounting systems and finance function processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure prompt completion and accuracy of monthly management accounts
  • Regularly forecast short-term profit & loss outlook
  • Manage financial risk, including costing systems and currency planning
  • Provide key financial reporting for external compliance and internal cost control, including VAT
  • Recommend and implement improvements to management accounting systems and finance function processes
  • Support the development of the management accounting system for the wider Grant Westfield group subsidiary
  • Oversee payables and accounting roles within the finance function

Key Duties Include:

  • Manage month-end financial system closure, coordinating financial ledgers and operational transactional processes
  • Monthly reporting of relevant P&L & KPI performance measures to directors and senior management, including variance analysis
  • Handle all journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy through reporting and review with the finance director
  • Calculate rebate agreements and liaise with sales for relevant promotional and contribution accruals
  • Set, monitor, and maintain relevant standard costs, including variance analysis
  • Complete VAT returns, analysis, and reporting to HMRC
  • Conduct statistical analysis and reporting for Intrastat and National Statistics
  • Report department overheads and perform ad-hoc cost analysis
  • Provide financial modelling and support for budgets and forecasting processes, liaising with stakeholders
  • Continuously improve internal controls and procedures within the finance function, focusing on payables aspects of purchase ledger, payroll, and cash flow
  • Review and authorize relevant payments on banking systems in line with company delegation of authority

Candidate Profile:

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA, etc.)
  • Advanced Excel skills for analysis purposes
  • Strong communication skills and a highly organized approach to work
  • Keen eye for detail and ability to recognize trends and key variances
  • Strong systems knowledge with the ability to efficiently extract, analyze, format, and upload data
  • Active interest in general business markets and current affairs
  • Adaptable to support other team members within the finance function
