Old School Java Developer – Legacy System (on-prem / No cloud tech)

Location: Oxford (Onsite 2 days per week, 3 days remote)
Salary:£60,000 per annum
 

Join our client’s Product Development Team as a Full Stack Java Developer. You'll play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and testing software products, ensuring robust solutions and an exceptional user experience. This position requires active participation in Agile SCRUM processes and a commitment to delivering high-quality software at the end of each cycle.

This role is ideal for a seasoned Java developer with a strong background in traditional enterprise environments. The focus is on maintaining and enhancing legacy systems using established Java technologies rather than working with modern cloud-native platforms. If you have extensive experience with Java EE, web application servers, and older ORM frameworks, and enjoy the challenge of improving and supporting mature codebases, this position offers an excellent opportunity to leverage your skills.

Key Responsibilities
- **Implement and Enhance:** Design, code, and test software enhancements and bug fixes following best practices.
- **Quality Assurance:** Collaborate with Product Quality Control to ensure solutions are robust, reliable, and user-friendly.
- **Documentation:** Support the creation of product documentation to meet internal and customer requirements.
- **Product Knowledge:** Develop a deep understanding of the software products to appreciate the relevance and usage of your work.

Mandatory Requirements

- **Education and Experience:** A relevant computer software degree and at least 3 years of commercial software development experience.

- **Technical Skills:**
- Java (version 17 preferred, minimum version 8) and JEE
- SQL
- XML, XSLT, CSS (SASS), JavaScript, HTML
- Web application servers (WildFly/JBoss preferred)
- ORM technologies (JPA/Hibernate)
- Strong UI and UX best practices
- **Agile Methodology:** Solid understanding of Agile theory and practice.
- **Communication:** Excellent organizational, written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
- **Teamwork:** Ability to work effectively in a team-focused environment.

Optional Requirements
- **Database Experience:** Familiarity with MySQL, Oracle, or MS SQLServer.

- JSF

- Build systems (Ant, Ivy, Maven, etc.)
