2020 Recruitment are working with one of our engineering clients who are looking for an Orbital Welder to join their team on a permanent basis.

This role is based in their Glenrothes site but there will be times when the successful applicant will be expected to work on other sites and potential offshore or abroad.

The Role

An Orbital Welder is a skilled professional responsible for performing precision welding on components and control systems used in oil and gas industry, automotive, and other industries where high-quality, consistent welds are critical. The role involves using specialized orbital welding equipment to achieve welds in a controlled and automated manner, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and adherence to strict industry standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Orbital Welder your duties will include the following:

  • Prepare and set up welding equipment, including orbital welding machines, power supplies, and gas systems
  • Ensure all necessary materials, such as pipes or tubes, are clean, properly aligned, and ready for welding.
  • Program and calibrate orbital welding machines based on specific project requirements
  • Adjust welding parameters, such as current, voltage, and rotation speed, to achieve the desired weld characteristics.
  • Operate orbital welding equipment to perform high-precision welds on a variety of materials, including stainless steel and exotic alloys.
  • Monitor and control the welding process to maintain consistent quality and meet project specifications.
  • Inspect welded joints using visual inspection and to ensure they meet industry standards and project requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance on orbital welding equipment to ensure proper functionality.

Requirements

To be considered for the Orbital Welder role you must have the following skills and experience:

  • Certifications in orbital welding or relevant welding processes may be required
  • Proven experience as an orbital welder or similar role, with a strong emphasis on the use of AMI welding equipment and autogenous and wire feed welding processes
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in various positions and environments.
