About Us

Holiferm is facilitating the transition of the $42 billion surfactant market away from harmful, fossil fuel-based chemicals to biodegradable, sustainable biosurfactants. We are spearheading research and production into this innovative technology and, as such, are offering the opportunity to make an impact towards a more sustainable future. Our patented fermentation process with integrated gravity separation technology enables us to produce competitively priced biosurfactants at a commercial scale.

At Holiferm, you will have the platform to broaden your skills by working with field leaders within a dynamic, collaborative and inclusive working environment. Whether you are based in our research and development laboratory in Manchester or our commercial plant in Wallasey, you will have the freedom and autonomy to drive innovation and change.

Role Responsibilities

This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to further their career in the lab, rather than move quickly into a non-laboratory-based role.

As a Research Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting daily laboratory tasks and activities at the Holiferm laboratory in Manchester.
  • Supporting lab-scale fermentation experiments, maintaining equipment, following downstream processing procedures and standard analytical tasks.
  • Working together with the process development and production teams to perform procedures and ensure proper documentation.
  • Supporting the scientists and engineers of the team with their experimental work on assigned projects.
  • Lab support: you will align workload, and proactively keep the lab and equipment in the best working conditions.

Role Requirements

The successful Research Assistant will have experience in:

  • Running daily laboratory operations such as
  • Preparing chemical slutions, e.g., fermentation media or stock solutions
  • Using standard labratory equipment, e.g., centrifuge or pH meter
  • Aseptic techniques for working with yeast and bacteria, e.g., of autoclave and microbial safety cabinets
  • It would be desirable to have experience using analytical equipment such as HPLC and experience in biotechnology and fermentation-based manufacturing processes (although this is not essential).
