Shawthorpe are seeking a Trainee Service Technician to join the team based at their site based in Telford, Shropshire.

Job Purpose

A varied role enabling the business to support customers and boost business growth. This is achieved by tackle various tasks, analysing problems, and repairing equipment in a timely and accurate manner to meet business requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Service and repairs:

  • Analyze service requirement.
  • Repair according to service requirement.
  • Perform planned (and preventive) maintenance, emergency repairs to equipment in the workshop and at customer site.
  • Carry out product upgrades.
  • Product and measuring device calibration.

Customer contact:

  • At customer site.
  • In the workshop.
  • Via telephone and email.

Administration:

  • Acceptance of goods arriving for service and booking into system.
  • Follow up and documentation of performed service.
  • Time management and time reporting.
  • Checklists.
  • Service order processing.
  • Insight in service agreements and ability to make an offer for smaller service work.
  • Packing and dispatch of goods & customer returns.

Improvement: Develop and improve service processes.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience working within a service/maintenance role would be beneficial but not essential as training will be given.  
  • Driving license
  • Good computer skills
    • Office package
    • Navision (previous experience is a merit)
  • Fluent in English (requirement)
  • Forklift license holder (beneficial although training would be given)
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Accurate, accountability, efficient and structured team player.
  • Ability to instruct others as needed.
  • Social competence:
    • The company's public face.
    • Represent the company in a professional manner.
    • Good communication skills, responsive and solution oriented.

Working Hours
Working hours are mainly within office normal hours, 8.30 – 17.00 Monday – Thursday, Friday 8.30 – 16.00 Hours. Out of working hours paid as overtime.

The position requires travelling to customers’ site (mostly nationally) and can require the technician to stay overnight – short notice may be necessary at times (eg: within 24 hours) therefore a flexible approach will be essential.

Must be able to work away from home at times, around 1-2 Weeks per month, all expenses paid.

Benefits / Package
£12 per hour.

Temp – Ongoing to Permanent.

28 days holiday, plus statutory holidays.
